Redlining of Our Era

Land-Use Voter Initiatives

Residential racial segregation is often furthered through facially neutral land-use voter initiatives, which operate as the redlining of our era. These initiatives produce significantly worse outcomes for low-income families and communities of color. Advocates have a few tools to combat these initiatives: advancing federal and state legislation, monitoring federal funding requirements, and partnering with environmental justice, labor, and business groups.
