The Shriver Center Endorses a Fair Tax in Illinois

A Fair Tax can drive economic and racial justice in Illinois.

Fiscal policies should ensure that all communities can thrive.

Illinois’ current tax system is unfair for middle and lower-income families – taxing everyone at the same rate, regardless of income.

Our tax code is also both a symptom of and instrument of systemic racism –  and, in short, it can be fundamentally unfair. This November, Illinoisans have an important opportunity to change that. The Shriver Center joins more than 115 organizations across the state in the Vote Yes for Fair Tax campaign.

A Fair Tax can drive economic and racial justice in Illinois.

A Fair Tax system in Illinois:

  • Would alleviate the unfair tax burden currently faced by middle-class families and families with low income, while ensuring the wealthy pay their fair share;
  • Would raise more than $3 billion in needed revenue to fund schools and social services;
  • Will provide funds for vital services that lift people and families out of poverty;
  • Will help address our state’s budget crisis;
  • Will provide additional tax credits for Illinois families.

Together, we can pass this critical reform in November. Pledge to vote yes for the Fair Tax this November and request your vote by mail application today!
