Head Shot Verónica Cortez Staff Attorney, Early Childhood

Verónica Cortez, joined the Shriver Center in 2018 as the Early Childhood Staff Attorney. She previously worked at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) where she conducted advocacy work in the areas of voting rights and education and litigated in the areas of employment and immigrant rights.  Before and throughout law school, Verónica served as a paralegal and law clerk in the civil rights practice group of Hughes Socol Piers Resnick & Dym.  During law school, she also externed for Judge Virginia M. Kendall (U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois) and served as the Public Interest Law Institute Intern at the Chicago Legal Clinic's Pilsen office. Verónica received a B.A. in International Relations and Hispanic Studies from Brown University and a J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law.  She is a founding member of Mujeres Latinas en Accion's Young Professionals Advisory Council and currently serves as a mentor to Cristo Rey Jesuit High School alumni and students in the Ford NGL network.
