Understanding Low-Wage Work
This
report from the Mobility Agenda and the Center for Economic Policy and
Research defines low-wage work and provides a description of the
low-wage labor market. The authors also examine the extent to which
opportunity exists for workers to move out of the low-wage labor market
and into better paying jobs.

AIDS Drug Assistance Programs
The Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured has published data on state AIDS Drug
Assistance Programs (ADAPs). ADAPs, part of the Ryan White Program,
provide HIV/AIDS-related prescription drugs to low-income, uninsured,
and underinsured individuals.

Project-Based Rental Assistance
The Government Accountability Office has published "Project-Based Rental
Assistance: HUD Should Update Its Policies and Procedures to Keep Pace
with the Changing Housing Market."
Prisons
Florida Governor Restores Voting Rights to Ex-Offenders
Florida Governor Charlie Crist has introduced a change to the executive rules
of clemency that will restore voting rights for certain
ex-offenders. Under the new rule, ex-offenders who have committed
less-severe crimes, who have completed their sentences, and who have
paid all victim restitution will have certain civil rights restored,
including the right to vote, the right to serve on a jury, the right to
apply for occupational licenses, and the right to hold public
office.

Campaign to Reduce Poverty
Catholic Charities USA has begun a blog to support its
Campaign to Reduce Poverty in America. The blog features the latest
news, tools, resources and more information about how individuals,
local Catholic Charities agencies and other organizations can support
the campaign.
Symposium on Poverty and Economic Security
Community Action Partnership will sponsor a national
symposium on poverty and economic security on May 29-31, 2007, in
Washington, D.C. The symposium will bring together a cross section of
practitioners, policymakers, foundations, and researchers for a
discussion on the causes and conditions of poverty and solutions and
new strategies for ending it.
Workforce Development
Women's Groups Complain of Sex Discrimination in Job Training
Programs
Legal Momentum and the National Organization for Women have
filed complaints with the Department of Health and Human Services
alleging sex discrimination in 34 of the first 100 programs funded by
the Bush Administration under its "Responsible Fatherhood" initiative.
According to the program summaries on the HHS website, the 34 programs
are providing job training services to men but not to women.
