Wendy
Pollack

Wendy Pollack specializes in welfare-to-work and workforce development issues and the intersection of the welfare, child support, and other systems with domestic violence. She is editor of WomanView, the Shriver Center’s e-newsletter on developments in legal issues affecting poor women. She contributed to the drafting of the Family Violence Option in the 1996 federal welfare law. In June 2000, she received the Distinguished Volunteer Service Award from the Chicago Jobs Council. In 1997, she received the Compassion Award from Southwest Women Working Together. This award is given to individuals "who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to improving the lives of women and girls in Chicago." Before coming to the Center in May 1996, she worked on the welfare law team at the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago and as one of its neighborhood staff attorneys. Before becoming a lawyer, she was a union carpenter and co-founder of Chicago Women Carpenters in 1979 and Chicago Women in Trades in 1982. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Jobs Council. Wendy is a 1989 graduate of Harvard Law School.
Michaella M. Furman

Michaella M. Furman joined the Shriver Center in December 2007. Michaella received a BS in Sociology and Women's Studies at the University of Dayton in 2002 and recently attained a Master of Science in Social Administration and Non-profit Management at Case Western Reserve University. During her time in graduate school Michaella worked as an intern in the District and Hill offices of Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich. Michaella has also worked with Artemis Center Alternatives to Domestic Violence and Berea Children's Home and Family Services, both social service and advocacy agencies in Ohio. Michaella's other interests include disability rights, international law and policy, and an ultimate desire to end violence against women and girls.
Marlene Fuentes

Marlene Fuentes is an AmeriCorps VISTA for the Women's Law and Policy Project. Marlene, a native Chicagoan, receive a BA in Psychology from DePaul University. While there she volunteered as a tutor at Threshold's Rehabilitation Center. Marlene recently received her Masters Degree from University of Illinois at Chicago, with a concentration in Juvenile Justice.
