Model Legislation for Ensuring Success in School Act
The Women’s Law and Policy Project (WLPP) at the Shriver Center recognizes the right of youth who are expectant parents, parents, or the victims of domestic or sexual violence to attend school. The WLPP also supports the efforts of these youth to successfully complete their education.
Toward
this end, the WLPP has drafted a model bill, the Ensuring Success in
School Act (ESSA), for advocates around the country seeking to advance
legislation in their states that ensure educational success for youth
who are expectant parents, parents or victims of domestic or sexual
violence. This comprehensive model bill is lengthy. It may need to be
broken down into several shorter bills. This model legislation is also
a work in progress, therefore, we encourage advocates and others
interested in the issues addressed by ESSA to contact the WLPP with
feedback, comments and questions.
