Women's Law and Policy Project
The Women's Law and Policy Project draws on the experiences of women
and girls and brings them to the forefront in our analysis of poverty
and the development of solutions. From education to employment, housing
to family law, health care and public benefits issues, we understand
how advocacy, public policy, and the law affect the opportunities of
women and girls and their communities as a whole.
We Lead Advocacy:
We inform the work our colleagues both within the Shriver Center and outside the Shriver Center, helping to illuminate how and why solutions must meet the needs of women and girls to be effective in reducing poverty through:
- Administrative advocacy
- Legislative advocacy
- Impact litigation
We Build Partnerships:
We collaborate with existing networks focused on poverty and women and girls issues (and help to create new networks as needed) to identify issues and contribute legal and policy expertise by organizing:
- Issue coalitions
- Conferences
- Strategic convening
We Establish Communications:
We capitalize on Shriver Center communication vehicles for reaching policymakers, advocates and service providers across the country, especially WomanView, Poverty Action Report, and the Web site, to promote WLPP and our efforts to other advocates, service providers, policymakers and low-income women and girls through:
- Issue briefs
- Best practices
- Trainings
